Welcome!

We are Cape Breton Island's community orchestra.

For more than 25 years, we have offered a unique musical experience to the community, playing a wide ranging repertoire, from classical to jazz, opera to pop. Our members come from a variety of backgrounds, from skilled amateurs, to classically trained professional musicians. Perhaps most importantly, each section has music students at the high school and university level, for which the orchestra provides important performance experience.

2024 Spring Concert

We are excited to share our varied program of music at our 2024 spring concert on Sunday, May 5 at 2pm at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church , 40 Cabot Street, Sydney!

You'll hear classical repertoire by Brahms, Mozart, and Strauss. You'll hear pop favourites such as selections from Les Misérables and Forest Gump. We are especially thrilled to be playing a selection of music created by, with, and about Indigenous people, including "We Shall Remain," "We Are One," and "We're Not Done Drumming." We will feature Emma Stevens and Sarah Prosper as our guest solo artists.

Tickets are $20 and are available online or at the door.

We work hard to keep our ticket prices as low as possible. We want as many people as possible to enjoy the beauty of orchestral music. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the orchestsra to help us do so.

We can't wait to perform for you on May 5! Thank you for your support!

About Us

Founded in 1994 as a small chamber ensemble, the Cape Breton Orchestra has since grown to an evolving group of 30-or-so musicians of all ages, backgrounds and day jobs. We have performed our own spring and fall concerts in churches and theatres across CBRM, featuring guest vocalists and instrumental soloists.

As an organization, we are entirely volunteer-run; from our Board of Directors, to our performing musicians, and musical directors. Our financial support comes from community sponsors and individual donors. We are a registered non-profit with charitable status. Donations of $3 or more will receive a tax receipt.

We are now registered on CanadaHelps.org, which offers various donation methods, including one-time or recurring monthly donations of any dollar amount.
